Visits to Berlin
If you want to visit me in Berlin, there are two possibilities.
- The Bundestag supports trips of school groups to Berlin with a travel allowance. A prerequisite is a visit by the group to the Bundestag.
- The Federal Press Office (BPA) offers information trips to Berlin for political education. Three times a year, as a member of parliament, I can invite people from Aachen on such a trip, which lasts four days. The BPA covers travel and accommodation costs and determines the program in which participation is mandatory.

Internships
You can do an internship with me. Internships are possible in my two offices in Aachen and Berlin. As a rule, internships last up to three months.
Possible are:
- voluntary internships before and during studies or training,
- Compulsory pratica during studies or training.
Internships after a completed apprenticeship or a completed degree are not possible.

Transparency
Transparency is particularly important to me as a member of parliament. Therefore, I would like to disclose all my income, funds and memberships as a Member of Parliament.
Compensation for members of parliament (“diet”)
As a member of the German Bundestag, I currently receive a monthly parliamentary allowance of EUR 11,227.20 (as at July 2024). The parliamentary allowance is subject to income tax.
Cost lump sum
In addition to my diet, I receive a tax-free lump sum of EUR 5,349.58 (as at January 2025). This lump sum is provided to me to cover expenses incurred in the performance of my mandate.
It serves to compensate in particular for
- Expenses for the establishment and maintenance of my constituency office,
- Travel expenses in the exercise of the mandate,
- Expenses for constituency support, representations, invitations, etc.
Members of the Bundestag do not receive an attendance fee. As a Member of Parliament, I am obliged to be present in the Bundestag in Berlin on session days and to provide evidence of this by making an entry in the attendance lists available there. If I miss meetings or votes, up to 200 euros per meeting day will be deducted from my expense allowance.
Employee lump sum
I have EUR 25,874.00 per month (as at March 2024) available for the employment of staff in Berlin and Aachen. This lump sum can also be used to pay for business trips and training for my employees. The personnel budget is managed by the Bundestag administration and is not paid out to me. Unused personnel funds expire at the end of the year.
Office and technical equipment
In Berlin, I am provided with three furnished office rooms in the premises of the German Bundestag.
In addition, the German Bundestag provides me and my colleagues in Aachen and Berlin with a total of seven laptops.
In addition, I receive an account for benefits in kind amounting to EUR 12,000 per year as part of my official equipment, which can be used to reimburse mandate-related expenses on request. Reimbursement can be made for example:
- Office and business supplies as well as business stationery for my office in Berlin,
- PC hardware and software,
- Telecommunication connections and links,
- my website,
- as well as furniture for PC workstations in my constituency office.
Assumption of travel expenses
In order to exercise my mandate, I will be provided with an annual Deutsche Bahn network card (1st class), with which I can use all means of transportation of Deutsche Bahn, the Berlin S-Bahn and various private railroads.
In addition, I will be reimbursed for air and sleeper travel within Germany as well as for travel on private railroads for which the annual travelcard is not valid. This also applies to trips with the Berliner Verkehrsgesellschaft (BVG). In addition, I can use the official cars of the German Bundestag (driving service) in Berlin.
Memberships and additional income
In addition to my mandate as a member of the Bundestag, I have the following sideline activities (as of March 2024)

I do not receive any income for these secondary activities. I declare all other income and benefits that I receive in addition to my mandate to the Bundestag administration in accordance with the Act on Members of the Bundestag.

Not only do I want to be transparent with my income, but I also want to publish which stakeholders I talk to. It is important for my work that I inform myself comprehensively before making decisions. To this end, I am keen to talk to those who are particularly affected by these decisions. To this end, I regularly speak with citizens, initiatives, clubs and associations. It is understandable that certain interest groups unite to voice their concerns. However, direct influence or even financial benefits for members of parliament must not result from these discussions. That is why I regularly publish on my website all the conversations I have with stakeholders and lobbyists.
